On March 27, 2024, trainees from the Woosong University Global Railway Training Program visited the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) for an in-depth learning experience about the latest developments in railway technology and research. This visit was organized to enhance understanding of cutting-edge research trends in the railway industry and to facilitate interaction between international trainees and Korean researchers.

The event began at 10:30 AM in the Haemuhall on the 4th floor of Building 11, with an introduction of the attendees and opening remarks. The session was led by the Director of Strategy, alongside a representative from the global trainees, marking the official start of the event.

From 10:40 AM to 11:10 AM, KRRI researchers presented an overview of the institute’s current research and development activities. This session provided trainees with insights into the ongoing projects and innovations shaping the future of railway technology in Korea.

Following this, from 11:10 AM to 11:50 AM, trainees were given the opportunity to present their interests in various railway fields. Each trainee had five minutes to discuss their areas of focus, offering a diverse range of perspectives and interests across different countries and specializations.

In the afternoon, from 1:10 PM to 3:00 PM, a networking session was held where trainees engaged with researchers. During this session, researchers introduced their ongoing projects and engaged in a Q&A with the trainees. This interaction allowed trainees to deepen their understanding of specific research topics and fostered meaningful exchanges of ideas.

The visit concluded with a group photo session from 3:00 PM to 3:10 PM, followed by a tour of the testing facilities from 3:10 PM to 4:30 PM. Trainees were guided through various testing labs, including the large-scale track testing facility, pantograph/6-DOF testing equipment, bogie testing, and brake testing facilities. This tour offered a hands-on experience of how railway technologies are tested and validated.

This visit to the Korea Railroad Research Institute was a valuable opportunity for the trainees to gain a comprehensive understanding of Korea’s railway research capabilities and to broaden their international perspective on railway technology.
