On May 21, 2024, trainees from the Woosong University Global Railway Training Program visited the Guro Control Center of the Korea Railroad Corporation for a comprehensive tour of the facility. The visit was designed to provide an understanding of the center's key operations and its role in managing Korea's extensive railway network.

The tour, led by Yun Song, began with an introduction to the control center's history and its operation under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport since 2005. Trainees were given an overview of the center’s state-of-the-art DLP display system, which allows operators to monitor train operations and signal conditions across the country in real-time.

The group then received an explanation about the Gyeongbu Line, a major railway line stretching from Seoul to Busan, known for its high frequency of train operations. The trainees learned how the line is divided into different control zones and how operators manage train movements using a console system.

Moving on to the high-speed rail section, the trainees were briefed on the differences between high-speed and conventional rail systems. They were also informed about the specialized training required for operators in the high-speed section, highlighting the distinct operational methods used.

The tour included a discussion on the safety measures in place for high-speed rail operations, including the video surveillance system used to monitor critical points along the rail line.

Finally, the trainees were informed about the challenges of managing an expanding railway network, such as the development of new routes like GTX, and the plans to expand the control center to meet these demands.

This visit provided the trainees with valuable insights into the advanced technology and operational strategies employed by the Korea Railroad Corporation, deepening their understanding of Korea’s leadership in global railway management.
