On April 28, 2026, trainees of the 8th Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for Overseas Government Railway Staffs at Woosong University visited the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI), the nation's leading government-funded research institute dedicated to railway technology and innovation, located in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
During the visit, trainees were warmly welcomed by KRRI researchers and received a comprehensive overview of the institute's wide-ranging R&D activities. The program included guided tours of advanced research facilities such as the Railway Test Center, the High-Speed Train Laboratory, and the Smart Railway Signaling System Laboratory, where trainees were introduced to cutting-edge developments in railway safety, intelligent transportation systems, and next-generation rolling stock technologies.
The visit also featured in-depth presentations on several flagship research areas, including automatic train control systems (ATC/ATO), railway predictive maintenance using AI and big data, hybrid and hydrogen-powered railway propulsion technologies, and railway infrastructure monitoring systems. Trainees had the opportunity to engage directly with researchers through Q&A sessions, gaining valuable insight into how Korea's railway research ecosystem supports both domestic network advancement and international technology transfer.

This visit was organized as part of the KGSP curriculum's technical field trip series, which is designed to bridge theoretical classroom learning with real-world research and industry practices. By exposing trainees from 12 partner nations — including Laos, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, and Panama — to Korea's most advanced railway research institutions, the program aims to cultivate future leaders in global railway development and foster international cooperation in railway technology.
The KGSP Global Railway Training Program at Woosong University's Graduate School of Railway is supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and continues to serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange between Korea and partner countries in the railway sector.
