On May 28–29, 2026, trainees of the 8th Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for Overseas Government Railway Staffs at Woosong University participated in the 2026 KR Rail Camp, a two-day, one-night immersive program hosted by the Korea National Railway (KR) at its Human Resources Development Center in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do. A total of 39 participants from the KGSP program joined the camp, including 32 global railway trainees from 12 partner nations and 7 accompanying professors and staff.
The program opened with an orientation and welcome speech introducing the KR Human Resources Development Center, followed by a special lecture by KR's Global Business Division, where trainees gained insight into Korea's overseas railway project experiences and KR's role in global railway development. The session provided a valuable overview of how Korea's national railway operator engages in international projects and builds global partnerships — directly relevant to the trainees' own countries' railway modernization efforts.
Following the lecture, participants enjoyed a cultural excursion to Naksansa Temple, a historic Buddhist temple overlooking the East Sea, offering trainees a chance to experience Korea's rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty of the Gangwon-do region.
On the second day, the program shifted to hands-on field experience with a visit to the Gangneung–Jejin Railway Section 4 construction site. Participants first received a comprehensive construction status briefing at the site's situation room, where KR engineers explained the overall project plan, engineering challenges, and advanced construction technologies being applied. The group then moved to the Yangyang Bridge construction site, where they observed ongoing bridge construction and received detailed technical explanations on site — with consecutive interpretation provided throughout to ensure full engagement by the international trainees.
This camp was organized as part of the KGSP curriculum's technical field trip series, designed to bridge theoretical classroom learning with real-world industry practices. By bringing trainees from 12 partner nations — including Laos, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, and Panama — to Korea National Railway's training facilities and active construction sites, the program aims to cultivate future leaders in global railway development and foster lasting international cooperation in railway technology and business.
The KGSP Global Railway Training Program at Woosong University's Graduate School of Railway is supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), and continues to serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange between Korea and partner countries in the railway sector.
