From June 17 to 19, 2026, trainees of the 8th Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for Overseas Government Railway Staffs at Woosong University participated in the Final Evaluation Workshop, a three-day, two-night program held in Busan and Changwon that combined academic paper presentations, a hands-on railway experience, and an industry site visit.

The workshop opened on the first day with the final paper presentations, where trainees presented their research findings on railway-related topics relevant to their home countries. Covering areas such as railway modernization strategies, infrastructure development plans, signaling systems, and policy frameworks, the presentations served as the culminating evaluation of the KGSP training period — demonstrating the knowledge and insights gained throughout the program and how these could be applied to advance railway development in their respective nations. The presentations continued into the second day, allowing for in-depth discussion and feedback from faculty and peers over the course of the two-day session.

On the second day, between presentation sessions, trainees also participated in a hands-on railway riding experience in Busan, traveling across the city using Busan's urban rail network, including Busan Metro Line 1, Line 4, and the Haeundae Beach Train. This experience allowed trainees to observe firsthand how Korea's metropolitan transit systems operate in practice — from station design and passenger flow to train operations and connectivity between urban rail and scenic tourist routes along the coast.

On the final day, the group traveled to Changwon for a visit to Hyundai Rotem, Korea's leading rolling stock manufacturer and the country's only provider of integrated railway vehicle solutions. Trainees toured the manufacturing plant where Hyundai Rotem produces high-speed trains (KTX), electric locomotives, metro vehicles, light rail vehicles, and defense and plant equipment. The visit offered a comprehensive view of large-scale rolling stock production and Hyundai Rotem's role as a global player in the railway industry, with exports to countries across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

This workshop was organized as the culminating event of the KGSP curriculum, designed to synthesize theoretical classroom learning with real-world industry exposure and academic research. By bringing trainees from 12 partner nations — including Laos, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, and Panama — to Korea's leading railway manufacturers and urban transit systems, the program aims to equip future railway leaders with the knowledge, networks, and practical insights needed to drive railway development in their home countries.

The KGSP Global Railway Training Program at Woosong University's Graduate School of Railway is supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), and continues to serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange between Korea and partner countries in the railway sector.
